The town of Bentota, situated 64km south of Colombo, has always been top choice for a quick holiday escape. Bentota hotels and town offers up all the beauty and relaxation that the southern coast has to offer, without the hassle of a long drive. Aside from the usual Bentota attractions such as the golden beaches and countless water sport activities, the town also has several restaurants which serve up delicious delicacies that will leave you with unforgettable food memories. Here are some of the best places to eat in Bentota and their specialties as well.

Malli’s Seafood Restaurant

Located on Beach Road, overlooking the railway track and several Bentota hotels, Malli’s Seafood Restaurant wins over travellers with its fresh seafood dishes and affordable pricing. Situated on the first floor of a simple, white washed house, the restaurant can be easy to miss. The menu here isn’t extensive, consisting of a few western and eastern inspired dishes, what is offered is high quality and very satisfying. There’s a small selection of seafood, meat and vegetarian dishes all equally good, but you can’t go down south and not try the seafood. Malli’s tuna steak is an ample portion of fresh tuna seared to perfection, while the Mahi Mahi served with silky mashed potatoes, is bursting with flavour.

The Golden Grill Restaurant

Situated just a few minutes away from the Bentota beach, the Golden Grill restaurant has been serving happy customers for years with a host of mouthwatering eastern and western dishes. Away from the noisy main road by a man-made lake, the restaurant is a great place to just chill. Prepare to tuck into some tasty Sri Lankan rice and curries or perhaps an aromatic Indian thali. If you’re not in the mood for rice, the western menu features several seafood options, along with sandwiches and pastas.

The Villa Cafe

Like its sister restaurant in Colombo, the Gallery Cafe – the Villa Café offers a selection of simple, yet refined cuisine. Located inside The Villa Bentota, the Villa Cafe dishes up several Sri Lankan favourites. These include black pork and prawn curries and contemporary fusion dishes, like Wasabi-coated Salmon with Cucumber Salad. Each dish is a work of art. The Cafe’s elegant ambience puts diners at ease immediately. Prices here are significantly higher than your average Bentota eatery. But if you’re willing to indulge, the relaxing setting and enjoyable meal is certainly worth it.

Diya Sisila Restaurant

If you’ve got plenty of time to kill and a real hankering for seafood, this is the place to be. Diya Sisila specialises in all things seafood. These include lobsters, starters with fish and more. In all honesty, there’s not much on the menu. But the food taste so good that it makes up for the lack of variety. One thing to keep in mind though, is the long waiting time for the food to arrive to your table. It can take anywhere from 30-minutes to a full hour. Definitely not a place for a quick lunch, but if possible, do take the time to enjoy a meal here.
